Mission

The Lefferts Gardens Charter School will utilize an environmental science program to develop academically motivated and civic-minded students to succeed in competitive high school and college programs. The proximity of several community-based environmental institutions provides a unique opportunity for learning that extends beyond the classroom. Graduates of LGCS will leave with an understanding of the relationship among science, the environment, and the everyday world.

Thank you to all of those who came to the co-location hearing in support of Lefferts Gardens Charter School last week! We truly appreciate all who stayed late to have a chance to speak in support of co-location! We had a 90% rate of those who were in our favor!

IF YOU WERE NOT ABLE TO COME THERE ARE TWO WAYS YOU CAN STILL SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!

1. Please join us at the PEP Meeting this Wednesday where they'll be VOTING on the  CO-LOCATION PROPOSAL!

2. You can EMAIL or CALL the D.O.E. voicing your support for co-location!

Comments can be sent by EMAIL or PHONE until  TUESDAY 6PM to the following address:

Written comments can be sent to: D17Proposals@schools.nyc.gov

Oral comments can be called in to: 212-374-0208

Attendees with disabilities or with concerns about access to the hearing site should call: 212-374-0208

The Panel for Education Policy (PEP) will consider and vote on this proposal on April 17, 2013 at 6:00 PM at Prospect Heights Campus: 883 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225.

PEP is essentially a board that makes the decision on co-locations, school closures, etc.  The PEP will receive a report regarding the hearing on the 10th, but further testimony can be presented at this hearing in support or against any co-location or closure they are voting on.

Parents and Supporters are most welcome and needed at this meeting, if you are able to come we'd love to see you there!

Give Your Time!

Parent volunteers play an important role at LGCS.

The main vehicle for volunteering is the LGCS Parent Association, which organizes the school's book fair, and events for students. Each classroom has at least one class parent who helps arrange for parents to volunteer in the classroom, reading to students, or assisting teachers and aides. Parents with a particular expertise can talk with students about their specialties. They can also serve as chaperones on the weekly field-study trips to educational sites in Brooklyn.
